BEAUTY TRIPPIN’: A Skincare Routine for Beginners

It's never too late!
by STAIL Team

If you’re reading this, you’re probably either curious about skincare routines or perhaps you’re hearing about skincare routine for the first time. On a daily basis, I get asked about my skincare routine. While I share my skincare routine with those who ask, I always make it a habit to emphasize that it may or may not work for them. Which is why before getting in-depth in this article, I want you to know that a certain product may or may not work for you.

I personally follow the 10-Step Skincare Routine just because I can and I want to. But it doesn’t mean you need to do this too. For now, let’s begin with the basics. Our concern here is how a person who has no idea of what a skincare routine is can create and start one of his or her own.

Let’s get started!

Before anything else, wash your face after a long day at work or school. Do not skip this! There are a lot of cleansers in the market but you need to go with a cleanser that has low PH level. Make sure it moisturizes, so it doesn’t strip your face of natural oils.

Washing with plain water is okay during the morning but it can also cause the skin to dry. A good cleanser will save your skin from bacteria, dirt, and sweat. As to which one we would recommend, we thing Krave Beauty’s Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser is the It has a jelly texture and is totally nourishing. No wonder it’s a favorite among beauty vloggers and enthusiasts all over the world.

When choosing the right toner, you need to take into consideration your skin type. For oily skin, choose a water-based toner. Thayer’s Witch Hazel is nice; plus it’s alcohol-free! Toner is used after cleansing your face. It lets your skin absorb your moisturizer better and removes the remaining dirt on your face.

Go for toners that hydrate yrour skin and have low PH. You can never get enough nourishment for your face. In Korea, you can use your toner for the 7-Skin Method, which requires you to layer your face with toner seven times to ultimately hydrate your skin. I’m From Rice Toner is perfect for all skin types as rice is known to lessen hyperpigmentation and brighten your face.

Skincare Exfoliator

Exfoliators are made to target specific skin issue you want to improve. There are two types of exfoliators. Physical exfoliators are scrubs with beads that are meant to remove impurities. Chemical exfoliators like salicylic acid dissolve the “glue” that holds dead skin cells together. Whichever you choose, always pick the mild variants.

I know you’re interested in that popular apricot scrub but it contains powdered walnut shells that are harmful and harsh for your skin. As for chemical exfoliators, choose products with AHAs for dry or sun-damaged skin. (Products with BHA are for acne and clogged pores, as well as stubborn spots). We think Glossier Solution is great exfoliator because you get the best of both worlds in one bottle.

Skincare Moisturizer

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize! We know the common benefits of a moisturizer: it hydrates skin and helps maintain its balance and smooth texture. Choose moisturizers made of natural ingredients, especially if your skin is sensitive.

A moisturizer with hyaluronic acid is the way to go as it’s proven to hydrate and nourish your skin. Vitamin E, meanwhile, offers anti-aging effects.  We like Neogen’s collaboration with beauty influencer Joan Day. Its Vita Duo Cream has the complementary Joan Day Vita Cream and Joan Night Vita Cream. Yes to healthy glowing skin!
