It’s no secret that some people discriminate against dark-skinned Filipinos. (Okay, maybe a lot.) The beauty industry pours millions into skin-lightening products and procedures, and despite popular “Love your skin” campaigns, having a dark complexion remains a stigma and something to be ashamed of. I mean, come on, guys, it’s 2019!
But dusky-skinned beauties are proudly stepping into the spotlight. TV host and Paano Ba ‘To author Bianca Gonzalez-Intal actively promotes her love for her own skin, even admitting that she has turned down a lot of offers to endorse skin-lightening products.
Another actress who’s always been vocal about being a proud morena is 18-year-old Gabbi Garcia. She may be young, but her conscious efforts to promote loving oneself, especially for morena girls, is admirable. She uses her whopping social media presence (3.7 million followers on Instagram!) to show that being morena is not a flaw, and you can be just as beautiful as the fair-skinned models from the west.
Here are a few of our fave looks from this brown-skinned beauty:
This boho chic look with a popping pink eyeshadow
It’s a misconception that morenas can’t wear color on their faces!
Sunkissed Gabbi and the beach
Take a page from Gabbi’s book and keep it light and simple with a nude lip!
Winged eyeliner and space buns
Accentuate that wing with a white eyeliner underneath for the perfect cat eye!
Gorgeous glow of Gabbi
Maximize that morena glow by highlighting your features, and you’re golden! (Pun very much intended.)
Whoever said that mauve is only for the fair-skinned ones is absolutely wrong. Case in point? This look.
