Are you ready to see Elvis Presley’s signature pelvic swing again? We sure are!
Baz Luhrmann is set to direct the new Elvis Presley biopic and it was announced that actor Austin Butler will portray the King of Rock and Roll. Luhrmann released a statement of the casting news on July 15, 2019. Other actors who auditioned for the role were Harry Styles, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort.
Aside from directing the movie, Luhrmann will produce the film with his wife, Catherine Martin. Gail Berman will also produce. Another actor joining the cast is Tom Hanks. He’ll play Col. Tom Parker, the Dutch-born manager of Elvis. The movie is a Warner Brothers project.
“I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist,” said Luhrmann in a statement with The Hollywood Reporter.
Austin Butler started his acting career in Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. He then starred in Disney’s Hannah Montana before transitioning to movies.
He is currently in a relationship with actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens. The two have been dating since 2011.
