Imagine living in a mansion so big that the only way to contact the people who live with you is through telephone–that was the ideal house setting in the 19th century.

Mansions today are designed to be luxurious, cozy..and small. The micro-mansion, as it’s called, is a downsized version of your typical big crib.

Micro-mansions gained popularity in the early 2000s.  This minimalistic, stylish, and energy-efficient place is the home of the new generation.

The house has hot tubs, designer interiors, landscaped gardens, and swimming pools–features that are also found in a typical mansion.

According to Love, a typical micro-mansion’s first floor is made up of a series of bedrooms, bathrooms, and additional communal space.

“From the master bedroom occupants have the pleasure of experiencing the finest panoramic views of Lake Zurich the city has to offer. Keeping in line with the contemporary feel of the exterior, all bedrooms and bathrooms contain simple wood floors, white walls, and minimalist furnishings,” the site said in a post about a micro-mansion in Zurich, Switzerland.

“The highlight of a micro-mansion is an open-plan space which can be used as an office, playroom, or additional guest room. As with the lower floors, traditional walls have been replaced with glass panels, while a set of doors leads onto a spacious veranda,” loveProperty added.

But don’t be deceived by the “micro” label. They may be smaller than the typical mansions, but these modern-day mansions are big in style.  “As spaces shrink, when it comes to high-end homes, there’s no need to forego the latest cutting-edge architecture,” says Dr. Andrew Golding, chief executive of the Pam Golding Property Group.
