Four Must-Watch Movies This August

Action, Comedy, Drama, take your pick!
by Mintzy Flor

It’s always a thrill when new movie trailers are released. Whether it’s something that you’re looking forward to or something that’s new to your eyes, the month of August offers a mix of drama, action, comedy, and even one for the kids at heart.

Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw, August 2

The ongoing franchise of Fast & Furious is back, this time as a spin-off with Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. The two reunite for a movie of kick-ass proportions, one that includes fight scenes with rumored 007 candidate Idris Elba. Of course, this isn’t a Fast & Furious film without the requisite car chase scenes and exaggerated action sequences. A definite must-not-miss movie.

Dora and The Lost City of Gold, August 9

Dora The Explorer is back to conquer the big screen, this time in a live action film. The character first gained fame in a cartoon series by Nickelodeon. After spending her time in the jungle with her parents,  Dora (Isabela Moner) is sent off to high school. Together with a group of kids that includes her cousin Diego (Jeff Wahlberg), she embarks on an adventure that includes saving her parents (Michael Peña and Eva Longoria) and solving the mystery of an ancient Inca civilization.

The Angry Birds Movie 2, August 14

Our favorite mobile game is also back with Jason Sudeikis returning as Red, the angriest bird of them all. This time, the Angry Birds team up with green pig Leonard (Bill Hader) to defeat a threat. This movie is perfect for some light comedy and a way to bond with the entire family.

The Art of Racing in the Rain, August 9

Give us a movie with Milo Ventimiglia and a dog and we’re good!  Here’s a film about what it means to be human. It’s a touching drama about man’s best friend (voiced by Kevin Costner) as he grows with a family that includes the head of the household (Ventimiglia as race car driver Denny Swift), his wife (Amanda Seyfried), and their daughter Zoe. This is an adaptation of the novel of the same title by Garth Stein.
