Fully Booked Puts The Spotlight On Local Writers

An homage to homegrown talents.
by Mintzy Flor

As someone who’s taking creative writing for her graduate studies, I hear this common complaint from my professors: “Why aren’t there more celebrated local writers in the country?” In our school, we talk about local writers and artists, most of whom are either old or dead. Where are the young writers that need to be recognized?

Fully Booked has partnered with Adarna Publishing House, making it possible to promote local artists and authors through “Local Lit Fest,” an event that runs tills August 31 at Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street.

Get ready for a month-long celebration of Filipino arts through a series of book signings, workshops, and other lit happenings.

Not a fan of books? Opt for film screenings and spoken word poetry night. Prepare your books for days of book signings with Becky Bravo, Rin Chupeco, and Visprint’s biggest authors Eros Atalia, Edgar Calabia Samar, and Manix Abrera.

What if you’re an aspiring writer or poet who wants to improve your skills? Join the Poetry Writing Workshop offered by Ang Sabi Nila PH, an afternoon filled with lively discussions and writing exercises.

Comics enthusiasts have the chance to create their own comics from senior creators Tepai Pascual (Maktan1521), Paolo Herras (Strange Natives), and Mark Navarro (Komiks Cum Laude).
